how can we typify our malls
Going more in depth, we began to study the urban and typological characteristics of HDB and Strata malls.
Begining with HDB malls, we studied their distribution across Singapore, noting that most are located at town centres and peripheral parts of Singapore, and take the form of a Shophouse.
We further related the urban profile of HDB malls with their locations and the demographics of visitors they tend to attract.
We selected Tampines district and zoomed into the Tampines East 201 as a site that embodies the typical HDB Shophouse for deeper analysis.

Besides studying the HDB mall, we also did the same with the Strata mall - noting that most strata malls were built in the 80s, tend to occur in clusters, and individually take the form of a podium block.
